Dr. Claire Ferrari - an orthodontist in Berkeley, CA & the east bay

Meet Dr. Claire Ferrari

I remember my dad saying that the best part of dentistry was orthodontics. Originally a Navy dentist who took his family from New York to Alaska to New Jersey (where I grew up), he became an orthodontist, and inspired me to become one too.

I studied craniofacial anomalies and went on volunteer missions treating patients with facial deformities in Nepal, Chile and Argentina. I also taught dentistry at Trinity College in Ireland.

I was lucky enough to be trained by the best orthodontists in the country—Bill Profit, Jim MacNamara and Vince Kokich— at the University of North Carolina, the University of Michigan and later, the University of Washington. As a fellow at UCSF, I learned about Invisalign® from its founders, leading me to be among the first to adopt this innovative mode of treatment. Later in my career I took a year-long intensive with the Airway Collaborative, where I learned about the science of sleep and how breath affects everything from oral health to brain function.

Since opening my private practice in 2014, I've incorporated CBCT and airway analysis using 3D imaging, which is not only more informative, but also safer for patients, since it emits lower radiation than standard 2D imaging. I was very intentional with the design of our office, which combines a warm, welcoming environment with technology that enables us to give patients not only a beautifully functioning bite, but also a healthy airway for optimal breathing and uninterrupted sleep.

When I’m not at the office, you might see me around town with any or all of my three kids (when they come home to visit) and husband, hiking the Berkeley Hills, walking my dog, or practicing yoga. I also love cooking for friends at our nearby home, hanging out and enjoying lively conversations about ‘life, the universe, and everything’, over warm family-style meals.

What Our Patients Say

“Dr. Ferrari takes the time to clearly explain forthcoming procedures to ensure that they understand why they need to do what's needed. This serves to empower patients to make the most of what's needed and help expedite the process.”
